Round rugs
Round rugs soften a room full of straight lines. Under a round dining table, choose a rug about 4 feet wider than the table so chairs stay on it when pulled out; a 48-inch table usually needs an 8′ round. In an entryway or reading corner, a 4′ to 6′ round adds color without crowding the space. Round rugs here run from 3′ to 12′ across, in modern, traditional, washable and indoor/outdoor styles.

Open size guideChoosing an area rug
Start with size: in a living room, leave 12–18 inches of bare floor around the rug and tuck at least the front legs of your sofa onto it. Then narrow by color and style, and add a rug pad to keep it in place.
