Outdoor rugs

Outdoor rugs bring color and comfort to patios, porches, decks and poolside seating. Look for solution-dyed polypropylene: it resists fading in sun, dries quickly after rain and cleans with a hose. Avoid jute and sisal outside, since they absorb moisture and break down. Every rug here is rated indoor/outdoor, so they also work in mudrooms, kitchens and entryways that see heavy wear.

Outdoor rugs: common questions

What’s the best material for an outdoor rug?

Solution-dyed polypropylene, because it resists fading and moisture.

Can outdoor rugs stay outside in the rain?

Yes, but let them dry fully and store them during winter to extend their life.

Can I use an outdoor rug indoors?

Yes; indoor/outdoor rugs are durable and easy to clean anywhere.

Choosing an area rug

Start with size: in a living room, leave 12–18 inches of bare floor around the rug and tuck at least the front legs of your sofa onto it. Then narrow by color and style, and add a rug pad to keep it in place.
